Show notes
Are you chasing someone else's business goals?
With all of the best intentions and hard work, business owners can still fall short of achieving their goals. In this episode, we discussed the different methods you can use to help you stay on track and how your mindset can dictate your progress. There are two stages to goal setting: the motivation and the system. It’s important to assess whether your motivation is actually in alignment with the direction you want your business to be heading. Often we get caught up worrying what everyone else is doing that we begin to adopt their goals as our own.
Having a clear vision of your end goal will help you manage your daily tasks more easily and create a system of habits which will push your progress forward. If you are trying to achieve a goal that is not important to you, then the fire to keep going when you reach an obstacle will soon burn out.
Kelly’s networking gem: Making it easy for people to buy from you
Don’t expect clients to chase you. We are increasing lacking in attention and time so making it as easy as possible for people to refer you to potential clients is more important than ever. Having a clear message about your product or services that you offer, will help your business connections to refer people to your business with no extra effort. Sending a link or business card for how to contact you or find out more will make that next step much smoother for your potential clients.
ONLE members notes from around the network:
Sam Sharma: Are the dreams the goals you REALLY want, and the tasks just the breakdown of how you achieve them? Goal setting can lead to burnout - instead the trick is to incorporate who we want to be into our daily tasks.
Denyse Whiller: I believe you have seasons to your life and you have to find the goals that fit where you are now and what season is coming next.
Rory Berry: You won’t get all the tasks done, but that’s okay. Win the war, not every battle and celebrate the steps on the journey.
Jo Renshaw: I have one goal each year and others which might not make it - but that’s okay as long as I hit the main goal.
Matt Pinyoun: One or two goals - don’t overcomplicate it and overwhelm.
Rob Edmonds: Be content. I just want to be able to enjoy my life, so make that as simple as it needs to be.
Kate Chastey: So a 135 Plan helps business owners focus on what’s really important to them, on just one sheet of A4 paper, by creating ONE top level vision, then identifying the THREE objectives that are critical for delivering that vision and then the FIVE actions needed for each objective to be achieved.
Conclusion: Without the right motivation no amount of hard work will help you keep striving for your goals. Take the time to think about whether your goals come from you or someone else. Only then can you put the systems in place to make them happen.
