How to get leads at networking events:

Let’s face it, the main motivator for going business networking is to ultimately get business. Getting leads from your networking activities doesn’t have to be complicated but it’s not a case of the more people you meet the more business you will get. Don’t be frightened to delve into conversations and develop real relationships - networking is not face to face cold calling.

Have a plan - doing the research and follow up activities to your networking activities will make all the difference. Often we are afraid to sell at one another while networking, but if you don’t tell people what they can buy, how do you expect them to either buy it or tell someone else to buy it. Don’t be mistaken by thinking good networkers appear as if everything comes easily, networking is a long term process and it takes time and effort to build relationships and generate leads.

Based on Jo Renshaw’s ONLE Talks, six months that count, showed that with intentional focus and clearing out the rubbish you can improve your productivity in a short amount of time. Time management, money mindset and setting good intentions all have their place in allowing you to make progress in your business. Across the network it appeared that making small changes in your habits each day can amount to significant time saving in your working week. Creating time in your schedule to be able to take a step back and have an objective view of your progress in vital in making the next six months count.

ONLE members notes from around the network:
Deanna Roberts: “I pledge to learn something new everyday and I make time to do so.”

Victoria Hogg: “Be 1% better everyday”

Corina Calugaru: “I make sure I do one thing every day that I enjoy that is just for me”.

Ainslie Chivers: “Work on the business, not in the business. Say no to the wrong things.”

Alice Smee: “I’ve stopped consuming news and instead look around at what’s going on. If you feel your head full of rubbish, it’s difficult to be positive.”

Neena Saith: “Focus my energy on what’s important.”

Tim Duddridge: “Slow down and appreciate the good - don’t just run to the next task or shiny thing.”

Paul Hill: “Say no and be a bit selfish with your time.”

Conclusion: Getting leads from your networking activities takes both time and an intentional strategy. It doesn’t happen overnight, but by building meaningful relationships while making it clear what you have to offer for others to purchase and sell on your behalf, you can achieve valuable leads as a result.
